La crise du coronavirus et la crainte de prendre les transports en commun a provoqué un engouement des Français pour le vélo. De plus, les beaux jours sont là et il devient très agréable de partir en balade ou de se rendre au travail avec un vélo à assistance électrique (VAE) ou un modèle traditionnel. Mais qu’en est-il des assurances ?
La première chose à retenir est que les vélos ne sont pas traités de la même façon que les trottinettes électriques et les autres NVEI (nouveaux véhicules électriques individuels). Ces derniers utilisent uniquement un moteur pour le déplacement et nécessitent une assurance responsabilité civile spécifique. Les vélos et les VAE sont couverts par la garantie responsabilité civile obligatoire, incluse dans votre assurance multirisque habitation. Si vous causez un tort à un tiers avec votre vélo (dégâts matériels ou corporels), votre assureur s’occupe de la prise en charge. En revanche, ce type d’assurance ne prend pas en charge les dommages corporels que vous pourriez subir en cas d’accident de vélo. En cas de pratique régulière, il est donc conseillé de voir avec votre assurance si vous disposez d’une assurance garantie accident de la vie (GAV), ou d’une option qui couvre les dommages corporels lors de la pratique du vélo. Elle peut se révéler importante en cas de gros problème, par exemple si vous ne pouvez plus vous rendre au travail pendant plusieurs jours car vous êtes blessé.
Il est conseillé d’assurer son VAE contre le vol
Pour les vélos, l’autre problème est le vol. Sachant que les prix deviennent élevés pour les modèles à assistance électrique (plus de 3000 euros pour certains), il peut être utile de s’assurer pour être indemnisé d’une partie de la somme investie. Pour assurer un VAE contre le vol, il faut que celui-ci soit homologué. Pour cela, il doit répondre à trois critères :
- La puissance du moteur ne dépasse pas les 250 Watts.
- Le moteur ne permet pas de dépasser les 25 km/h.
- Le cycliste doit pédaler pour que le moteur s’active.
Avant de souscrire à une assurance contre le vol, il faut d’abord se poser une question simple : où est-ce que j’entrepose mon vélo ? Car si le vélo est placé dans votre domicile, il bénéficie de la même assurance contre le vol (multirisques habitation) que les autres objets qui s’y trouvent. Il faudra bien penser à disposer de la facture et surtout regarder les détails de l’assurance pour connaître la franchise et rechercher d’éventuelles clauses d’exclusion.
Si le vélo est entreposé à l’extérieur de votre domicile, vous aurez besoin de prendre une assurance supplémentaire. Les tarifs peuvent dépendre de plusieurs éléments, tels que le prix du vélo, les garanties proposées ou la ville de résidence. N’hésitez pas à contacter votre conseiller ASSUDIRE, pour connaître les différents tarifs, car il est hélas difficile de les trouver sur le Web.
